KTM EXC are good bikes, but the comfort is bad, and service intervals are brutal. KTM 690 / 890 are ok, but reliability is very bad. The closest ones to "perfect" for me are the CRF 300 Rally or Tenere 700. The dream would be to have something in-between these two, with similar reliability.
The biggest disparity between the KTM 790 Adventure and the Yamaha Tenere 700 is the price. The Tenere checks in at $15,499 plus ORC, while the 790 Adventure, at $19,695 plus ORC, is over $4000 dearer. This difference is likely due in large part to the KTM’s far more advanced electronics, which we’ll get to later.

If your interests lean more dirt than pavement, between those two it's an easy vote for the 690. Both bikes will do gravel/dirt/fire roads and easy trails but the T7 is going to be more work carrying around additional 100 LBS wet as you go further from the tarmac.
