The quadrant gear return spring is in the actuator section that you have removed. There is a circlip down where the flattened shaft comes out of the top of the actuator (in the photo). Removing this should allow the shaft with the quadrant gear to be removed, to access the return spring.

The basic block is the same across all 1.8TDCi engines. Obviously the fuel pump, injectors and ancillaries etc will all need swapping over. If you get a new engine is look into getting the fuel pump timing belt replaced with a chain, peace of mind it's not going to fail again! . 1.5TDCi (120ps) Save.

Hello, An update on my focus. Managed to get a hold of 4 injectors from a 2007 model 1.8tdci. Had a local garage fit. Initally all was good, better sounding engine, no hesitation , improved mpg etc.

Jun 11, 2011. #4. The Focus 1.8 TDci has a very common problem with the rubber turbo pipe on top of the engine.the one with a metal pipe attached that has an electrical connection on it. The pipe is usually at the driver's side on top of the engine. It is very common for the rubber pipe to split giving the symptoms you mentioned.
